New Year Asian Butt

If you love cooking in a crock-pot, then you will love this recipe!  The thing I crave most about this dish is the intense flavor and all the accoutrements you can add in. With New Year's right around the corner, it's the perfect menu for company too! 

You'll Need

  • 9 lb Pork Butt
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Mirin
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha
  • 3 star anise
  • Zest and juice of 2 limes and 1 orange
  • Thumb size piece of ginger peeled and minced
  • 5 cloves of garlic
  • 2 green onions washed, cleaned, and cut in half
  • 4 cups chicken stock


  • Cashews
  • Radishes
  • Carrots
  • Cucumbers
  • Mint
  • Cilantro
  • Basil
  • Lime wedges
  • Sriracha Mayo
  • Jalapenos and chili peppers
  • Serve with warm French baguette


  1. Add the ingredients listed above into the crock-pot
  2. Cook on low for 10 hours
  3. Transfer the pork to a platter, cover, and let rest for 10 minutes
  4. In a separate pot, take the juice out from the crock pot and simmer to reduce for 20 minutes
  5. Using a fork, shred the meat into bit size pieces, discarding any large pieces of fat
  6. Return shredded meat to the slow cooker and cover with the left over juice
Since pork should be your first meal of the New Year, this is the perfect dish!
