Hot Honey: A Taste from our Charleston Eateries
From Carrie Morey's Hot Little Suppers cookbook

Ingredients
- • 1 cup of honey (we chose locally sourced)
- • 1 tsp habanero flakes
One of the most-beloved, customer-favorite specials at our Hot Little Biscuit eateries is our chicken sandwich drizzled with hot honey, also known as our Charleston Hot Honey Sandwich. These were flying out the door when we had them on the specials menu, and we received so much positive feedback that I knew we had to bring the sandwich onto the menu full-time.
Born out of this special turned staple is our delicious hot honey recipe; it definitely has a kick and is a little spicier than what you’d find on the grocery store shelves. We make ours with locally sourced honey and dried habanero flakes for the punch of flavor that pairs perfectly with juicy fried chicken sandwiched between a tender buttermilk biscuit.
Whip up this easy hot honey and keep it on hand in your pantry for a glistening drizzle of full-on flavor, no matter what you add it to. From chicken and pizza to veggies and even a cup of tea, you will definitely keep this special as a pantry staple for years to come!
Instructions:
- In a small saucepan, add honey and habanero flakes. Stir a few times and then simmer over low heat for about an hour to allow habanero flakes to steep into the honey.
- Once steeped, optionally strain the flakes out using a fine mesh strainer.
- Store in an airtight container and use for all your honey needs!
